Roller Coating

Roller Coating is a precise and efficient finishing technique used in leather processing where chemicals are applied using rollers instead of spray guns. This method ensures controlled application thickness and minimizes waste, making it ideal for consistent and sustainable finishing.

In this process, leather is passed through a machine equipped with one or more rotating rollers that apply a uniform layer of finishing chemicals onto the surface. These rollers are calibrated to deliver an exact quantity—typically between 5 to 15 grams per square foot—depending on the required finish and type of leather. The result is a controlled, even layer of chemicals that enhances surface protection, color, and texture.

Unlike spray finishing, roller coating offers high precision with minimal overspray, which significantly reduces chemical wastage. It also allows for better control over the depth of application, making it ideal for applying heavier coatings such as pigments, binders, or protective layers. This precision is especially important in products where thickness, coverage, and consistency are crucial—such as automotive leather, furniture, and durable fashion accessories.

Roller coating also provides a smoother, more uniform finish, which can improve both the tactile quality and visual appeal of leather. It enables leather manufacturers to meet specific aesthetic and technical requirements while maintaining eco-friendly practices through reduced chemical usage and controlled emission.

Key highlights of the roller coating process include:

  • Uniform application of finishing chemicals using calibrated rollers
  • Delivers 5–15 grams per sq.ft. in a single pass
  • Reduces overspray and minimizes chemical waste
  • Ideal for thicker coatings and consistent surface finishing
  • Enhances appearance, durability, and environmental efficiency
